In Ebonyi State, prominent figures from opposing parties have switched to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A former Development Center coordinator from Effium’s Wigbeke Ward 2 and former Special Assistant to the immediate former Governor, Barrister Nnabuife Abara, spearheaded the defection.
Along with his followers from the independent communities of Alioma and Ezekuna Alioma, Abara formally swore loyalty to the APC.
Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the APC’s state chairman, and other party officials from the state, local, and ward levels welcomed the defectors.
Speaking to the crowd, Emegha commended the new members for their decision, calling it bold and wise. He also mentioned that Francis Nwifuru, the state governor, has continued to draw both grassroots supporters and political stakeholders with his accomplishments and people-centered leadership style.
“There is no room for divisive politics anymore in Ebonyi State,” the state APC chairman said, acknowledging that Nwifuru is leading with a clear vision under his administration’s Peoples Charter of Needs motto, which is why Ebonyians from all walks of life are joining forces with him.
He called on the new defectors to preserve the party’s principles and integrity and underlined the importance of harmony, peace, and active participation among all party members.
During his speech, Barr. Nnabuife Abara praised Governor Nwifuru for fostering an atmosphere that encourages harmony, peace, and inclusive growth throughout the state.
Abara claims that they needed to join the progressive family since they had closely observed the governor’s leadership style and saw in him a sincere and committed leader.
He added that the residents of Alioma and Ezekuna Alioma have made the decision to completely support the APC and will spearhead the grassroots effort to guarantee that Nwifuru receives every vote in the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Abara also praised the governor’s attempts to resolve the ongoing dispute between Effium and Alioma, calling them an example of great statesmanship.
In a same spirit, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, praised the governor’s efforts to promote peace, citing the historic reconciliation of the Agila and Ngbo communities, who had been at odds for more than a century.
According to Prince Odono, who called Nwifuru a gift to Ebonyi, he has brought Ohaukwu closer together than ever before, and as a result of his calm demeanor, almost all of the political parties in the LGA have now dissolved into the APC.
Hon. Ogbonna Nwogbaga (JP), the Coordinator of Effium Development Center, greeted the new members and encouraged them to continue being active and dedicated in their support of the APC-led government in his goodwill message. He gave them his word that Governor Nwifuru is a leader who values performance, loyalty, and honesty.
Party members celebrated the unity and increasing power of the APC in Ohaukwu as the event came to a close with victory songs and chants of solidarity resonating throughout the stadium.
Political observers claim that with this widespread defection, the APC is reaffirming its grassroots power in Ebonyi State and establishing itself as the unchallenged political force in front of the general elections in 2027.
