For allegedly extorting drivers along the Benin bypass, six Edo State Command police officers have been placed under arrest.

The officers were detained in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance policy for extortion and unprofessional behavior, according to a statement shared on the Force’s X account.

According to the statement, the officers have reported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, along with their chief superintendent of police supervisor.

According to the statement, they were marched in front of Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, when they arrived at Force Headquarters.

The IGP promptly ordered the police to begin disciplinary proceedings after reportedly denouncing their acts as horrible, repugnant, and completely unacceptable.

“The officers have been queried, while orderly room trials for the Inspectors implicated in the video have commenced.

“This reiterates the Force’s commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity and accountability.

“The public is assured that such misconduct will not be tolerated under any guise, and appropriate sanctions will be meted out in line with established disciplinary procedures,” the statement added.

According to information obtained by ZINGTIE, an X user exposed the officers by recording and sharing their activities.

An officer was seen in the widely shared video requesting five liters of fuel or an undisclosed sum of money from drivers along the Benin bypass who lacked documentation of their Electronic Central Motor Registry (ECMR).
