It has been reported that a robbery suspect and ex-convict, whom his sister took to an overnight church service for spiritual deliverance, has reverted to his former lifestyle.
The suspect, Oyemachi Maduabuchi, who is 34 years old, had previously fled from the Owerri Correctional Centre located in Imo State. Since 2009, he had been facing trial for conspiracy, armed robbery, and arson.
Following an alleged theft of a SIM card at a night vigil in the Ijesha area of Lagos, Maduabuchi was recently rearrested.
Reports suggest that after his prison escape, the suspect returned to his hometown of Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra State, where he encountered his mother. Later, she put him in touch with his older sister, Amarachi Maduabuchi, residing in Lagos.
As per a statement released on Tuesday, June 1, by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, the suspect’s sister brought him to a night vigil for a special deliverance service.
“After the night vigil at Bride Assembly Church in the Ijesha area of Lagos State, the suspect allegedly stole the SIM card and memory cards belonging to a church member (name withheld) before he was eventually arrested. The stolen items were recovered from him,” the statement said.
The police added that the suspect has admitted to the crime. In the meantime, CP Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has given the directive to transfer him to the Nigerian Correctional Service for further investigation and suitable measures.
