Abdulmalik Mohammed Durunguwa, a former Federal Commissioner with the National Population Commission (NPC), has urged the people of Southern Kaduna to rise above political, religious, and ethnic divisions in order to promote unity, peace, and progress in the region.

During a visit by journalists from Southern Kaduna, Durunguwa who also serves on the board of the College of Aviation and Technology in Zaria emphasized the importance of community-level involvement from all parties in addressing security challenges. He pointed out that a lack of collaboration among locals often contributes to the breakdown of security in the area.

He said, “Let us come together as one family irrespective of our differences, and I tell you, within a short time, Southern Kaduna will be a pace-setter to other parts of the country because the region has all it takes to develop better than America.”

“When we work together as an entity, it will be easier for us to identify any bad egg among us and flush such elements out of the larger society. It will be very difficult for anybody to penetrate once we coordinate ourselves for the overall peace and unity of the region.”

Durunguwa, who was also a former governorship aspirant in Kaduna State, added, “If you leave people in a community without coordination and direction, there will always be security challenges.”

He pointed to the peace-building initiatives he has led in his hometown of Laduga as an example, explaining that consistent interaction with traditional leaders, youth groups, and local security teams has led to meaningful progress. According to him, Laduga has now become a calm and stable community where residents can pursue their daily livelihoods without fear.

He added, “Whenever I visit Laduga, I meet with village heads, local security teams, and youths to discuss strategies. Today, I can proudly say that Laduga stands out as one of the most peaceful communities in Southern Kaduna.”

Durunguwa called on other prominent figures from the region to contribute to efforts aimed at addressing both insecurity and the lack of development. He emphasized that Southern Kaduna has the human and natural potential to emerge as one of the most advanced areas in the country.
