The Kano State Government has allocated ₦1.1 billion for the purchase of school uniforms for all Primary One pupils, as part of its efforts to increase school enrolment across the state.
The announcement was made on Friday in Kano through a statement released by Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf.
The statement explained that the distribution of free uniforms is intended to encourage higher enrolment figures, enhance pupil retention, and promote equal access to basic education.
It also emphasized that education should be treated as a fundamental right rather than a privilege, noting that the initiative will help reduce the financial strain on families and encourage children who are currently out of school to return to the classroom.
The government highlighted that this effort aligns with broader reforms under its all-inclusive education strategy aimed at revitalizing the sector.
