Tony Cole, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) 2023 candidate for governor of Rivers State, has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

According to Cole, the proclamation implied that all Rivers State residents holding state and federal political positions should resign as well.

In a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday night, Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers State, as ZINGTIE reported.

The president accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly building and expressed his “deep distress over the political crisis” in the state.

Tinubu stated that he has chosen to “declare a state of emergency from March 18” following an assessment of the circumstances.

Cole added that declaring a state of emergency in the state is a difficult option for Fubara and that the president faces a very difficult decision considering the political situation.

Nonetheless, he warned that the violence would continue until the required political measures to end the issue were done.

He told Channels Television, “Everybody who is a political actor at the federal level should step down. Everybody who is a political actor at the state level should step down. A very hard decision has to be made by the president on the political side.”
