Strike: Don’t threaten, blackmail labour – Ezekwesili to FG

Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, has urged President Bola Tinubu and the leaders of the National Assembly not to intimidate or threaten labour leaders.

Ezekwesili also advised Tinubu and the leaders of the National Assembly not to use labour leaders and negotiators as a means of blackmail.

She was responding to rumours that the military had surrounded the location of the union leaders’ meeting with the federal government to discuss negotiating a minimum wage.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, had expressed concern about the presence of troops through a post on X that said, “Soldiers are Presently surrounding the venue of the meeting between Labour and Government at the premises of the SGF,”

In response, Ezekwesili asked labour leaders not to consider the soldiers’ presence a threat.

The former Minister posted on X, saying: “I don’t quite understand this information.

“Does it mean that the Union Leaders of

@NLCHeadquarters and @OfficialTUCN

are feeling threatened?

“If so, that’s definitely not good for the Negotiations, @NGRPresident @NigeriaGov @NGRSenate @nassnigeria.

“Forget intimidating or blackmailing the Labor leaders and negotiators. Adopt Confidence-building measures now.

“That’s the wise way to go. Wisdom is profitable to direct.”
