A Tehran University undergraduate student, Ali Mohammad Khaleghi, was fatally stabbed in an armed robbery near campus, Iran’s Ministry of Science announced on Thursday. Khaleghi, a 20-year-old business management student at Tehran University’s School of Management, was attacked on Wednesday night around 10pm near the university dormitory complex, a usually bustling area filled with students.

According to the Ministry, Khaleghi was assaulted with a bladed weapon and succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “The relevant authorities are investigating the causes and details of this tragic incident, with updates to follow,” the Ministry stated.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, which led to the targeting of the undergraduate student, remain under investigation. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. This incident is the latest in a series of violent robberies in Iran’s capital. 

Recently, former professional footballer Abolfazl Taherinejad was attacked and lost a thumb in a mobile phone robbery, as reported by Fars News Agency. Another incident involving national football star Ali Daei, who was robbed of his gold chain, had previously drawn national attention.

The university community is in shock following the tragic incident, and authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of students on campus. Counselling services have been made available to students and staff affected by the incident. An investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
