Students reap benefits of $7.5 Million gift for Education

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has launched the Enduring Opportunity Scholarship Program, thanks to a $7.5 million gift from the Windgate Foundation. This significant investment aims to make higher education more affordable for students across Arkansas.

The gift includes $5 million to establish a permanent endowed scholarship fund and $2.5 million in immediate-use funds to support affordability initiatives over the next several years. The programme builds on earlier initiatives, such as the Half-Off Scholarship and Trojan Guarantee, made possible by a $25 million anonymous gift in 2020.

The Enduring Opportunity Scholarship Program is expected to have a significant impact on the university, with goals including reversing enrolment decline, achieving strong enrolment growth, driving long-term economic mobility, and ensuring more Arkansans can choose a high-quality, affordable education.

Chancellor Christina Drale has demonstrated her commitment to the programme, announcing a personal gift of $25,000 as the first contribution to the Enduring Opportunity Scholarship Challenge. The Windgate Foundation has also issued a $1.5 million challenge to the UA Little Rock community to grow the endowed scholarship.

The Windgate Foundation has a history of supporting educational institutions in Arkansas, with previous grants including $298,924 to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, $653,774 to Southern Arkansas University, $6.4 million to Arkansas State University, and $1.56 million to Henderson State University.

This generous gift marks a major milestone in UA Little Rock’s Centennial Campaign, with the university now having raised $225.5 million toward its $250 million campaign goal.
