Taiwo Oyedele, the chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, has urged Nigerians to avoid letting certain clauses in the proposed tax reform prevent the bills from passing.
According to the ZINGTIE, since President Bola Tinubu sent the legislation to the National Assembly, they have been surrounded by controversy. Prominent northern politicians have strongly opposed the bills, arguing that they are anti-regional.
Although the president stated that he preferred that the legislation go through the parliamentary processes, the National Economic Council, or NEC, has also encouraged the president to withdraw the laws in order to allow for more extensive consultations.
Speaking at a town hall on the tax reform proposals hosted by Channels Television on Monday, Oyedele, whose committee draughted the legislation, pointed out that the laws contain more than 200 revolutionary measures that have the potential to improve the nation.
“These bills have more than 200 transformative provisions to fix our country and set us on the right path to prosperity.
“We should not allow one or two provisions that we can easily discuss and agree on to become the pain or the bottleneck,” he said.
