According to the ZINGTIE, a pregnant woman was allegedly killed in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, for ceremonial reasons.
On Thursday, the incident took place at Temidire 4, a peaceful rural neighborhood in Egbejila, Ilorin.
The body was discovered brutally slain and mutilated in a way that has left the community in shock.
Witnesses said that the disturbing occurrence is frighteningly similar to a previous ritual case in Ilorin in which Abdulrahaman Bello, a self-styled preacher, killed Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara College of Education, Ilorin, for body parts.
The victim, whose husband trades agricultural chemicals and equipment in a border town in Kwara North, was found alone at home on Wednesday night, according to community members.
“Eyewitnesses alleged that she was expecting a visitor that evening and was seen purchasing bottles of beer and plates of pepper soup before retreating indoors.
“By dawn, suspicion arose when a neighbor reportedly confronted a man, believed to be her husband’s younger brother, leaving the house with a dripping black nylon bag.
“The liquid trail, on closer inspection, turned out to be blood. Alarm was raised immediately, drawing other members of the community.
“Horrifically, body parts suspected to belong to the victim, including an arm, a leg and entrails, were later discovered in nearby bushes but the head was nowhere to be found.”
As rumors of ritual motivations gained traction, the community’s long-standing ethnic fears and preconceptions were stoked, and panic swiftly spread throughout the neighborhood.
With allegations and counter-accusations tearing at already shaky relations, the finding has already increased mistrust inside the multi-tribal settlement.
According to police sources, the matter has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ilorin for additional investigation from the Budo Nuhu Divisional Headquarters along Airport Road.
At the time this story was filed, however, attempts to contact Ejire Adeyemi-Toun, the Public Relations Officer for the Kwara State Police Command, were not successful.
