The legal representatives of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have revealed that a private medical facility in Abuja is prepared to receive and provide treatment for him.
This update was shared by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in response to ongoing debates over the adequacy of medical care being provided to the IPOB leader.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has requested the court to dismiss the motion seeking Kanu’s transfer to the National Hospital for treatment.
However, addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Ejimakor said: “Just two days ago, I wrote a letter. A private hospital has also expressed readiness to admit him here in Abuja.
“For security reasons, I won’t mention the name of the private hospital. But if the government appears to have issues with taking him to the national hospital, we have given them an option of a private hospital also here in Abuja.”
Asked if the application to transfer Kanu to the national hospital was rejected, Ejimakor said: “No, it’s pending. It hasn’t been rejected. It’s pending.
“Depending on the admission of his report from the Nigerian Medical Association and the opinion of the Nigerian Medical Association.
“And you know, if you were in court, the judge had ordered that the committee or panel to be considered by the Nigerian Medical Association shall have a member from the national hospital. So national hospital is still in play.”
The IPOB leader is currently facing trial for terrorism before an Abuja Federal High Court.
Recently, Kanu’s legal team had raised an alarm over his deteriorating health and the need to transfer him to the national hospital for treatment.
