TETFUND Chairman, Miriam Onuoha, has praised the organisation as the “lifeblood of tertiary education in Nigeria” during the commissioning of N1.3 billion building projects at Ebonyi State University. Onuoha emphasised the importance of sustaining TETFUND rather than scrapping it, highlighting its crucial role in supporting tertiary institutions across the country.
“I’ve visited over 46 universities, and what I saw was marvellous and amazing,” Onuoha said. “TETFUND should be improved and sustained, not scrapped, because it’s the lifeblood of tertiary education in Nigeria.”
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, represented by Deputy Princess Patricia Obila, commended TETFUND for its interventions in tertiary institutions, noting its significant impact on infrastructural and educational advancement.
President Bola Tinubu was also praised for making funds available to TETFUND, ensuring the successful completion of projects at the university. Onuoha called for the maintenance of the fund, emphasising its importance in promoting quality education.
Arc Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFUND, described the commissioned projects as annual interventions for 2016-2019, 2021-2022, and 2020, totaling N1,339,791,726.06. Echono highlighted TETFUND’s remarkable strides in supporting infrastructure-based projects, with the university receiving N12,313,420,341.34 in allocations since 1999.
Professor Chigozie Ogbu, Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, echoed Onuoha’s sentiments, describing TETFUND as the “lifeblood of tertiary education in Nigeria.” Ogbu requested special allocations for the Advanced3 Reference Research Laboratory and the Faculty of Management block.
TETFUND’s mission is to improve the quality of education through the education tax system, focusing on providing additional support to Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The commissioning of the N1.3 billion building projects at Ebonyi State University marks a significant milestone in TETFUND’s efforts to enhance the learning environment and promote academic excellence in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, thanked TETFUND for its support, saying, “We are grateful for the interventions of TETFUND, which have enabled us to provide a conducive learning environment for our students.”
The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the federal government, the Ebonyi State government, and the university community.
