Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claimed on Monday that Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, would have claimed the glory if he had backed Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to win in 2023.
The assertion was made by Wike on Monday at his monthly news briefing in Abuja.
“In 2023, he (Amaechi) came and said he was going to support Atiku in PDP.
“Thank God we did not support PDP, if we had supported PDP and they won, he would have taken the glory.
“We said okay, we won’t support PDP and they didn’t get up to 10 percent,” Wike said.
Wike, a PDP member, worked against Atiku during the 2023 presidential race.
When the party zoned its ticket to the North in the run-up to the 2023 presidential election, Wike’s issue with Atiku began. The party cannot zone the national chairman and presidential ticket to the North, according to Wike and other southern governors.
In the sake of justice and equity, Wike has insisted that the PDP should allocate its presidential ticket to the South.
Following the party’s rejection, Wike backed All Progressives Congress (APC) President Bola Tinubu.
