On Sunday, Katsina State’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) officially welcomed supporters from a number of opposition groups.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Accord Party, and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) were among the parties with the largest number of defectors. Notably, among those who changed sides was Rabiu Bakori, the PDP’s nominee for deputy governor in Katsina’s 2015 election.

At the flag-off of the APC Local Government Elections Campaign at Ingawa Local Government Area, the decampees were formally met by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Ganduje called the ceremony historic and promised the new members that they will be treated fairly, highlighting the APC’s commitment to providing the real benefits of democracy. He stated, “Those we are receiving today are from the PDP, NNPP, Accord Party, APP, and PRP. Katsina people are known for their dedication, hard work, unity, hospitality, and religious values.”

Dikko Radda, the governor of Katsina State, also pledged to maintain the development initiatives started under the APC and expressed confidence in the party’s ongoing success. He promised followers that the party would win the next local elections, which are set for February 15, 2025.

“We are welcoming over 100,000 decampees today from the PDP, NNPP, PRP, and Accord Party, who have acknowledged the impact of our efforts. To our supporters, I urge you to come out in large numbers and vote for the APC without fear. I assure you that we will continue the good work we have started under this administration. Our former governors, senators, and House of Representatives members remain united,” Radda stated.
