President Bola Tinubu has told Nigerians that the ongoing recalibration of the country’s security architecture will soon provide outcomes capable of restoring public trust.

The President made the assurance on Friday at a meeting with a team from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos mansion.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, Presidential Spokesperson, released the following statement.

Tinubu stated that his administration remains dedicated to security sector changes, including the development of state and community policing to meet increasing challenges around the country.

“The mood of the nation is peaceful, although our ungoverned spaces are so large. The challenge is real, but we will surmount it,” the president said.

He urged religious leaders to assist government efforts via cooperation, vigilance, and prayers, pointing out that some security measures took time to mature.

“We are very religious. We are prayer warriors. We need your focus, vigilance and cooperation,” he added.

The President stated that state and community police will become a reality once the National Assembly completes the necessary legislative processes.

Tinubu noted that delays in purchasing military weaponry were harming public opinion, citing the high cost and scarcity of such equipment.

He revealed that Nigeria had requested four attack helicopters from the United States and was also in talks with Turkey about additional support.

The President stated that the administration remained steadfast despite the guerrilla tactics of bandits and militants, emphasizing that restoring peace remained a major priority.

Tinubu advised caution following the recent kidnapping and release of schoolchildren in Niger and Kebbi states.
