Usman Bugaje, a political activist, claims that because President Bola Tinubu is surrounded by sycophants, he is not concerned about the plight of common Nigerians.

Bugaje made this claim on Thursday while criticizing Tinubu’s leadership style during Channels Television’s special Democracy Day program, “Nigeria’s Democratic Journey: An Inter-Generational Conversation on Building a Better Nation,” which celebrated 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria.

He claimed that the President is protected from the unpleasant realities that the people must deal with by his close circle.

“It looks like the President has been completely encircled by sycophants. They don’t allow him to see the realities, they don’t tell him the truth. But if he knew what was happening in society, he would be ashamed of himself. As far as I know him, I never thought he would allow this situation.

“He is now there, wallowing in the comfort of the Villa, talking in ways that show he doesn’t even know what is happening in this country. If he knew, he would not be doing the kind of things he’s doing now,” he said.

The former lawmaker also bemoaned what he described as wealth without output, saying that Nigerians were demanding concrete results and were no longer influenced by well-crafted words.

He charged that Nigeria’s current democracy is not fulfilling its fundamental duty of uplifting the populace and ensuring their well-being.

Citing the accounts of kidnapped victims, jobless youngsters, and suffering small business owners, he also bemoaned the helplessness of numerous residents who have been subjected to economic hardship and instability.

He contends that a government no longer has the moral right to refer to itself as democratic if it is unable to provide for fundamental security and well-being.

Bugaje called the current situation in the nation “disgraceful,” providing statistics to support his assertion.
