President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to giving Nigerian children’s education top priority in distant Paris.

While meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais des Élysée in Paris on Thursday, Tinubu made the commitment.

He presented strategies to drastically lower the number of youngsters who are not attending school by implementing creative return-to-class campaigns and skill-building exercises.

The President emphasised the importance of motivation and skill development in the government’s continuous efforts to provide a framework that supports school-age children’s return to the classroom.

“In order to bridge the gap for some who are of age, and have been out of school for a while, we will encourage skills development,” the President added.

The Nigerian president, accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, informed President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron that a population with a high level of education is essential to Nigeria’s potential for development.

“The insecurity in some parts of the country makes it hard for children to return to school, but we are gradually re-populating the classrooms. And we need skills development to bridge the gaps,” the President stated.

Using “kinetic” tactics as part of the peace-building process, the President highlighted the noteworthy advancements made in improving security throughout Nigeria.

“With some more efforts, we will be able to get some level of stability. We had a very good harvest this year. And as soon as more farmers can go back to the farm, we will have more stability in harvest and supply,” he said.

President Macron recognised Nigeria’s enormous development potential and the need of funding educational programs. During a six-month internship at the French Embassy in Nigeria, which included trips to Lagos and Kano, he thought back on his early experiences.

Macron and Brigitte Macron pledged to further strengthen the France-Nigeria friendship while thanking President Tinubu and Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their state visit.
