Top politician descends on Wike over threat to FCT Senator, reveals secrets about his works

Former Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairman and Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) Publicity Secretary Chief Peter Ameh has chastised Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for his recent comments regarding the 2027 election.

Wike announced that FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe would not be returning to the National Assembly in 2027 at the groundbreaking of a project in the region. In response, Ameh reminded the outgoing governor that the political climate in Abuja differs from that of Rivers State, where Wike had previously had absolute power.

“I watched an episode where they were commissioning a car park in Mabushi. I saw Wike flagging off a car park. In which world do people flag off car parks?” Ameh questioned in a video. He criticized Wike for using the occasion to belittle a sitting Senator and for making statements that undermined her character.

Ameh also accused Wike of self-promotion and questioned the quality of his roadworks. “Government is not about self-promotion. Wike boasts about doing roadworks, but many of these roads are already in poor condition. Some roads in areas like Nyanya, Karu, Karishi, Kubwa, and Gwagwalada are still not done. Even the ones he completed have issues,” Ameh stated.

He added that Wike has amassed 98 billion naira for active projects and around 1.2 trillion naira without being held accountable. He cited Wike’s incomplete work on the Apo-Karshi Road as an example.

Wike’s attack on an elected senator and boasts about not returning back in 2027 drew criticism from Ameh. He stressed that people in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) vote on the basis of merit, not fear, and that the region is a multicultural and urban centre.

Ameh also urged other senators and Labour Party officials to band together and denounce Wike’s activities.

“They need to hold a press conference and tell him that he cannot control the country and misuse public resources. He cannot stand on a stage and insult the electorate with disrespectful language. This is not acceptable in a democracy,” he added.

Ameh concluded by drawing comparisons between Nigerian governance and that of other nations, implying that ministers in South Africa or Egypt do not act in the same way.
