The Katsina State Police Command has taken a 25-year-old woman, Rabi’a Labaran, into custody over the alleged killing of her fellow wife, Zainab Lawal, aged 30, after a violent domestic dispute in Daura.
The unfortunate event unfolded late on May 24, 2025, near Dadi Primary School in Daura’s Sabon Gari neighborhood. Police reports indicate that a quarrel between the two women escalated into a deadly clash. Their husband, Nasir Yusuf, reportedly returned from the market around 11:00 p.m. to find Zainab’s body with several stab wounds.
Authorities were promptly notified, and a response team led by the Divisional Police Officer arrived at the location. The victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura, where doctors confirmed her death.
During questioning, Rabi’a allegedly admitted to the crime, stating that a disagreement between her and Zainab had turned violent, ultimately resulting in the fatal stabbing.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, confirmed the arrest and strongly denounced the incident, urging citizens to reject violence in the home and refrain from taking justice into their own hands.
“Disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Taking the law into one’s hands only deepens the crisis and erodes the rule of law,” he said.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspect remains detained as legal proceedings move forward.
