Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to maintain his aggressive approach in the transfer market this year, with Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri emerging as his primary target at left-back.
Back in January, the former Premier League champions spent £180 million to bring in four new signings in a bid to turn around a disappointing season.
Guardiola secured the services of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis in an effort to steady the club’s performance.
Despite the reinforcements, City ended the campaign in third place and failed to secure any silverware.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Ait-Nouri has been identified as a priority addition for the defense.
According to The Athletic, while a final agreement has not yet been reached between Manchester City and Wolves, all parties are confident that the transfer will go through.
Guardiola is also reported to be targeting Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne, who has played his final match for the club.
The City boss appears to be focusing on Premier League talent, with Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento also on his radar.
Former captain Kyle Walker, who spent the latter part of the season on loan at AC Milan, is not expected to rejoin the squad. Guardiola views Livramento as a possible replacement, though negotiations with Newcastle could be challenging.
