Major General Moses Gara, Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), on Tuesday led his first combined land and water operational visit to Gidan Pepa in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State and Loko in Nasarawa State.

The purpose of the tour was to evaluate the current security setup and the performance of troops stationed across the Joint Operations Area.

The visit included a river patrol through key waterways, highlighting the Commander’s commitment to conducting joint multi-environment operations to help stabilize conflict-prone regions.

At both locations, Maj. Gen. Gara praised the soldiers for their dedication to maintaining security and urged them to stay alert, focused on their mission, and continue fostering positive relationships with the surrounding communities.

He also committed to fast-tracking ongoing housing projects to improve troop living conditions and promised the deployment of essential field gear such as all-terrain bikes, advanced communication tools, and other critical resources to enhance mobility and operational effectiveness, especially in difficult terrain.

Emphasizing the importance of discipline and awareness, he told the troops: “Keep your weapons clean and your ears to the ground. Intelligence is your first layer of defence.”

Gen. Gara extended his appreciation to Hon. Shuaibu Umar, the Sole Administrator of Loko, and Mr. Mike Ejiwo, a respected community leader in Gidan Pepa, for their cooperation and positive feedback on the soldiers’ conduct.

Mr. Ejiwo shared that the community has enjoyed over five years without incidents of farmer-herder violence, crediting the consistent military presence for the peace.

Speaking on the military’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, the Commander noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain the only institution to have increased ration cash allowances in response to the country’s economic conditions.

“We cannot call ourselves your commanders if we cannot take care of you. I came here to say, ‘well done’”, he stated.
