President Donald Trump has brushed aside concerns that the United States is headed for a recession, despite falling stock prices triggered by the ongoing trade war.
The stock market’s decline on Monday continued into Tuesday following a new round of tariffs imposed on Mexico, China, and Canada, which now faces additional surcharges.
Speaking at the White House as Elon Musk delivered Tesla vehicles at his request, Trump proclaimed that America’s economy “is in for a boom.”
When asked if the trade tariffs could lead to a broader economic downturn, Trump referred to them as “the hard way.”
“I don’t see a recession at all,” the President stated. “I can do it the easy way or the hard way. The hard way to do it is exactly what I’m doing.”
Trump also reiterated his call for Canada to join the United States, suggesting that it would alleviate security concerns and offer financial benefits.
“Canada will be great as the 51st state. The people of Canada will pay less tax, and it makes more sense,” he said.
Additionally, Trump expressed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is always welcome to return to the White House for discussions whenever he is ready.
