On Monday, Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, will be sworn in inside the US Capitol.
Trump clarified that the extreme cold forced the inauguration to be held indoors.
The U.S. presidential inaugural ceremonies will be held indoors for the first time in forty years. The second swearing-in of former Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1985 was the last occasion an inauguration was moved indoors owing to extreme cold.
Posting on his Truth Social media handle, Trump wrote: “There is an Arctic blast sweeping the country. I don’t want to see people hurt or injured in any way.
“Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda.”
Additionally, the incoming president told his supporters that the ceremony would be shown on screens within the Capital One Arena.
He also announced that the Capital One Arena will host his presidential procession, which was originally scheduled to include marching bands and other ensembles traveling down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
In the November 2024 presidential election, Trump won the most electoral college votes and defeated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
