As part of an investigation into illicit betting on Turkish games, the Istanbul public prosecutor’s office has ordered the arrest of 46 people, including 29 football players.

It has been alleged that at least 27 of the players wagered on matches involving their own teams, in which they were also participants.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has revealed that its disciplinary committee has banned a number of officials involved in the current betting scandal for eight to twelve months.

However, investigations into three additional referees are still ongoing.

371 of the 571 referees in Turkey’s professional leagues opened sports-betting accounts, and 152 of them were determined to have made bets.
