The University of Benin (UNIBEN) recently hosted its inaugural Registry Lecture, a milestone event that brought together esteemed guests, academics, and media professionals. The lecture, titled “University-Community Engagement: Perspectives from the Nigerian Society and Media,” was delivered by Mr. Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, Director of Current Affairs at TVC News.
During the ceremony, the university conferred the Distinguished UNIBEN Registry Recognition Award (DURA) on notable Nigerians and the UNIBEN Registry Award of Meritorious Service (URAMS) on former registrars who have made significant contributions to the institution.
In his welcome address, Registrar Ademola Bobola praised Vice Chancellor Prof. Edoba Omoregie, SAN, for approving the program, which aligns with the university’s five-point agenda. Prof. Christopher Osubor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), officially declared the event open on behalf of the VC.
“We are excited to explore options to address the current challenges facing our university community and host societies,” Bobola stated, highlighting the significance of the lecture. “The media’s role in framing strategies for effective university-community engagement will also be discussed.”
By featuring expert insights and recognizing outstanding contributions, the Registry Lecture aims to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration between the university and it’s stakeholders.
