The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated 1,433,300 doses of polio vaccines to the Adamawa government. The vaccines are targeted at children aged 0 to 59 months in the forthcoming immunisation exercise.
Dr. Suleiman Bashir, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency, disclosed this at a media roundtable discussion in Yola. According to Dr. Bashir, the agency has deployed 2,778 personnel to ensure a successful immunisation across all 21 local government areas of the state.
“The exercise is scheduled from April 26 to 29, and we urge parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated against polio,” Dr. Bashir said. He also solicited the support of traditional and religious leaders for the success of the exercise.
Mr. Oluseyi Olosunde, Health Officer at the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, appreciated the Adamawa government’s efforts in healthcare service delivery. “Special teams will be deployed to markets, playgrounds, schools, and places of worship to ensure no child is left behind,” Olosunde stated.
The immunisation exercise aims to reach all eligible children in the state, and the agencies involved are working to ensure its success
