The University of Lagos’ Department of Mass Communication Head, Prof. Oluruntola Sunday, congratulated four distinguished alumni who received the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) national honor. The awardees are Professor Olatunji Dare, Bayo Onanuga, Dare Babarinsa, and Late Dr. Yinma Sen.
Sunday praised the awardees for being exemplary ambassadors of the department and UNILAG, urging them not to relent in their contributions to journalism, journalism education, and democracy growth in Nigeria.
Professor Dare, an erudite scholar of journalism, was recognized for his commitment to journalism’s best practices. He was awarded the Louis M. Lyon’s Prize for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism and the Hammet/Hellman Grant for Courage.
Bayo Onanuga, a co-founder of TheNews and P.M. News, serves as Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Dare Babarinsa is a veteran journalist and Chairman/Managing Director of Gaskiya Media Limited.
The late Dr. Yinma Sen, a pro-democracy advocate, was awarded posthumously for his contributions to governance and unity. Sunday congratulated the awardees, celebrating their achievements and commitment to excellence
