The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has taken a significant step towards resolving its four-year crisis, as the Board of Trustees (BoT) intervenes to broker peace between the warring factions.

The BoT has called for a ceasefire in media publications and promised to work towards a permanent resolution by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

In a statement issued by the BoT Chairman, Mrs. Cecilia Cook, the board expressed its willingness to collaborate with the university’s governing council to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

“By this, the board expresses willingness to join hands with the governing council to resolve the crises before the end of the first quarter of the year 2025, God willing,” Cook said.

“For a permanent resolution to the conflict between the opposing parties, the board hereby issues a ceasefire to them, particularly on online platforms, pages of newspapers, and on any other platforms that may warrant,” Cook said.

The BoT directed all opposing parties to obey the ceasefire directive and refrain from further public disputes, particularly on online platforms and in newspapers. The board instructed the parties to await further directives before the end of February 2025.

To ensure a comprehensive resolution, the BoT plans to engage with key personalities, including Dr. Olawale Fasakin, Professors Kilani, Durosaro, Jeleel Ojuade, and others relevant to the matter. The board urged all parties to exercise patience and remain hopeful that the crisis will soon be resolved.

“The board will, certainly, serve a hard copy of the release on the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and that of the council chairman for the purpose of bearing the message to the university community and the council, in particular.

“The board will, in earnest, contact personalities like Dr. Olawale Fasakin, Professors Kilani, Durosaro, Jeleel Ojuade, and others relevant to the matter.

“The board wishes all the parties concerned to exercise patience and be hopeful to see the end to the crisis in due course.”

The BoT chairman commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, for his achievements in office, noting that the university’s developmental strides were customary. However, the board expressed dissatisfaction with the rift in the national alumni association, which has negatively impacted the university’s image and the association itself.

Mrs. Cook stated that the board would serve a hard copy of the release on the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and the council chairman, ensuring that the message reaches the university community and the council. The board is committed to finding a lasting solution to the crisis and restoring the alumni association to its former glory.

With the BoT’s intervention, the University of Ilorin Alumni Association is poised to embark on a new era of peace and cooperation. The alumni community and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the board’s efforts, hoping that the crisis will soon be a thing of the past
