University Hospitals (UH) in Cleveland, Ohio, has received a $3.5 million gift from Joanie and Tom Adler to support bereavement services. The funds will expand staff and services at the Joanie and Tom Adler Bereavement Programs, which were named in recognition of the gift.
This generous donation builds on the couple’s previous support, including a 2021 gift that established an endowed directorship. The Adlers’ commitment to bereavement services stems from a personal tragedy 20 years ago when their son and daughter-in-law’s child was stillborn at nine months
“When you grieve the loss of a child, you can’t help but imagine who they might have been, the life they might have lived,” said Tom Adler, UH trustee emeritus. “Those of us who remain have to find a way forward. If this programme can be light in that darkness for even one person, it will be worth it.” The Adler’s gift will provide vital support to those navigating grief and loss
