Activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has demanded the resignation or dismissal of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

According to reports, JAMB acknowledged mistakes in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Out of the 1.9 million candidates who took the exam, more than 1.5 million scored below 200 out of the total 400 marks.

During a briefing in Abuja, Oloyede confirmed that some candidates would be asked to retake the 2025 UTME. He stated that those affected would begin receiving text notifications starting Thursday.

A total of at least 379,997 candidates from the five South-East states and Lagos are expected to participate in the rescheduled exam.

In response, Sowore called for the Nigerian government to abolish JAMB entirely.

Posting on X, Sowore wrote: “This is a country of really dangerous public officials; while @JAMBHQ registrar is here forming, he “regrets” the monumental disaster he superintended upon that has claimed a young life, and instead of resigning immediately, he brought to the same press conference a bunch of callous yesmen to clap for him. #ScrapJAMB, Sack the incompetent Prof. Oloyede Now! #RevolutionNow

“The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (@JAMBHQ) Prof. Oloyede bears responsibility for the organization’s egregious errors, which have devastatingly claimed a young life, shedding crocodile tears is not a remedy for these infractions.

“As a first step, he should resign, followed by a thorough investigation and possible prosecution for manslaughter. Moreover, JAMB must be scrapped. #revolutionnow.”
