It is anticipated that Norway will be the first nation to do away with the Video Assistant Referee, or VAR.
This is due to a decision on Wednesday by 19 of its 32 clubs to discontinue the use of the technology in the top level in the nation.
It comes after a four-month consultation process with clubs, players, and fan organizations.
The vote’s decision prompted a suggestion that the Norwegian Football Federation, or NFF, approve the outcome.
Although ESPN notes that the governing body may still overrule the vote, the NFF is anticipated to make a final judgment in March.
In 2023, VAR was introduced in the Eliteserien. However, the system’s deployment has primarily drawn criticism from supporters nationwide.
Earlier this season, Rosenborg’s match against Lillestrøm was called off when fans threw fish cakes onto the field in protest against VAR.
Tennis balls, croissants, and champagne corks were flung onto the field during other games.
