Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has spoken out following the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of reality TV personality Phyna, who reportedly died after being struck by a Dangote truck.
Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after spending 19 days in the hospital fighting for her life.
The accident occurred in Auchi, Edo State, where she was allegedly hit by a Dangote truck driven by an unlicensed driver.
In a video shared via Instagram on Sunday, VDM criticized the silence of the public, media, and government agencies throughout the period Ruth was hospitalized. He expressed frustration that public attention only surged after her death.
“She was alive for 19 days yet nobody spoke up. Now that she is gone, everybody wants to talk, post and trend the story. If we had raised the alarm earlier, maybe Dangote group would have been forced to act faster,” he said.
The activist suggested that timely public pressure could have compelled the Dangote Group to respond more swiftly and responsibly.
He also condemned the employment of unqualified drivers by such a major company and held both the government and the company accountable for failing to enforce proper standards.
VDM described the situation as a reflection of broader institutional failures, criticizing both authorities and powerful corporations for consistently neglecting the welfare of everyday citizens.
