Ebonyi State policewoman Vera Anyim is crying once more, saying that after a humiliating incident that cost her a police position, Pastor Paul Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja has abandoned her.

After testifying before Enenche’s church, Anyim claims she was demoted from Inspector to Sergeant, and the pastor no longer answers her phone or provides her with any assistance.

When Anyim took the pulpit at a Sunday service in April 2024 to express her happiness at becoming the first person in her family to graduate with a law degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the turmoil started.

Pastor Enenche interrupted and accused her of lying in front of the congregation when she mispronounced her degree as a “BSc in Law” rather than an LLB. He requested her to leave the altar, advising others not to give false testimony, and questioned her English, stating that she didn’t sound like a law degree. Nigerians demanded an apology after the incident went viral and sparked outrage online.

Anyim’s name appeared as number 2262 on NOUN’s convocation list for April 13, 2024, confirming her LLB degree, providing immediate evidence that she was a graduate. Images of her as an Inspector in a police outfit alongside the late Nollywood actor John Okafor also appeared.

In response to criticism, Enenche apologized through his aide, Sylvester Edoh, claiming that he had contacted her personally and never intended to embarrass her. Anyim said on Facebook that she had no resentment and was still a devoted member of the Dunamis after meeting with Enenche and his wife, Becky.

However, Anyim now asserts that the apology was insufficient. She claims that she was degraded in the Nigerian Police Force as a result of the public humiliation, which caused her anguish and embarrassment.

“Pastor Paul Enenche no longer picks my calls,” she cried out. “His embarrassment brought pain and shame to me. Till today, he didn’t give me any money and doesn’t want to see me again.”

She feels that rather than serving to exalt God, her story set off a series of circumstances that cost her dearly.

Since no official police statement has acknowledged the demotion, it was unable to independently verify the story. Nonetheless, Anyim’s anguish has rekindled discussions over the incident, with some Nigerians criticizing Enenche for not doing more to support her.

Others wonder if the church incident or other work-related problems are directly responsible for her demotion, assuming it occurred.

What are your thoughts? Does this need to be handled by the police, or should Pastor Enenche do more to assist Vera Anyim?
