According to the New York Times, Dorothy Hoffner, an American who just broke the record for the oldest skydiver at 104 years old, quietly passed away on Monday at her home in Chicago.

Dorothy Hoffner, a renowned centenarian who became well-known worldwide for her incredible skydiving experience, broke the record for the oldest tandem parachute jump on October 1 at Skydive Chicago Airport.

The previous record for this achievement was held by a 103-year-old Swedish woman the year before.

Dorothy Hoffner, in spite of her elderly age, found skydiving to be a tranquil and delightful experience.

About 80 miles southwest of Chicago, near Ottawa, she told the Chicago Sun-Times, “There was nothing about it when I landed It was nice and peaceful.” 

Joe Conant, a friend of Ms. Hoffner, claims that her body was found by employees of the senior living community Brookdale Lake View. She is thought to have died on Sunday night.

Skydive Chicago and the US Parachute Association expressed their happiness that Hoffner’s final jump ended her “exciting, well-lived life.”

Many of us put skydiving on our bucket lists as a precautionary measure, but Dorothy tells us that it’s never too late to experience the thrill of a lifetime.

According to the New York Times, Ms. Hoffner was first “not excited” about the press coverage she had gotten the week before.

But when the weekend approached, she had a change of heart and decided to use it as an opportunity to socialise.

A nurse who had known Ms. Hoffner for around five years stated that the cause of her death was still unknown.
