Using social media, a Nigerian woman has accused a church of selling her mother a single cherry for ₦1,000, saying it was the “fruit of life.”

In a widely shared TikTok video, the young woman displays her face next to the contentious cherry and explains that her mother, a churchgoer, brought the fruit home and disclosed it had been bought for ₦1,000 at the religious event.

Incredulous, she uttered: “Tell me why my mother would go to church and they’ll sell this thing for ₦1,000 to her-fruit of life?”

She added in frustration: “What is wrong with Africa and this religion thing? They’ve really brainwashed you people.”

As the video went viral, her remark generated a range of reactions on the internet.
