Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja today, November 20, 2025, for the delivery of the much-anticipated judgment in his alleged terrorism trial.

Key Updates on the Proceedings

  • Judgment Fixed: Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court fixed today for judgment after Kanu, who is representing himself, declined to open his defense, insisting there was no valid charge against him under a repealed law.
  • Charges: Kanu faces a seven-count amended charge, including allegations of terrorism, treasonable felony, and running an unlawful group. He has vehemently pleaded not guilty.
  • Legal History: This highly sensitive case has spanned a decade, marked by numerous legal battles, including a 2022 Court of Appeal ruling that discharged him (which was later reversed by the Supreme Court in 2023).
  • Live Broadcast: In an unusual move, the court registrar has confirmed that the judgment proceedings will be delivered via a live broadcast, with cameras from major television stations set up in the courtroom.
  • Security: Security has been reportedly tightened across the Southeast region and around the court premises in anticipation of the ruling’s impact.
  • Latest Appeal: Just days ago, Kanu filed a new appeal before the Court of Appeal seeking to stop Justice Omotosho from delivering the judgment, although legal experts suggest this does not automatically suspend the High Court’s proceedings.

The nation and the international community are closely watching today’s judgment, as it is expected to be a pivotal moment in Kanu’s protracted legal saga.
