Emmanuel Nyabam, a survivor of forced intimacy, has talked about his terrifying experience and found courage and comfort in relating to other male survivors.
In a video released by NTA, Nyabam described how, while attending college, a group of girls tricked him into going into their room, where they forced him to sleep with them while holding him at gunpoint.
He also disclosed that a family member had assaulted him while he was a small child. He was unable to discuss the incident and said nothing. Years later, though, he was violated once more, this time by the daughter of his landlord.
In Nyabam’s words: “I was molested by a family member at a very early age. Not knowing how to speak about it, I kept quiet. Gratefully, I relocated to Jos with my dad, and that kept the matter out of view. But a few years later, it happened again—this time with our landlord’s daughter. While I was in university, a bunch of girls lured me into their room and, at gunpoint, did what they wanted to do with me. It is a closed system—boys and even men don’t talk.
