According to the Gombe State Police Command on Tuesday, a 55-year-old village chief from the Zambuk community in the Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state is presently being held.
In a press release, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Gombe command’s public relations officer, said that the suspect reportedly defiled a 12-year-old girl in the same vicinity.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect was arrested after the incident was reported to the Zambuk Police Division on Saturday.
He said upon the receipt of the report, “police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect, stating that investigation is still ongoing.“
The command’s spokesperson, who condemned all forms of sexual violence, called on locals to swiftly report cases for swift action.
Additionally, Abdullahi stated that in Bajoga Town, Funakaye LGA of the state, command men retrieved vandalized railway track bolts, iron pipes, and electric lines.
He added that an 18-year-old suspect who was wanted as an armed robber in Yamaltu/Deba LGA’s Kwadom Community had also been taken into custody.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect reportedly admitted to participating in two armed robbery cases that are currently pending before the Gombe High Court.
According to him, the suspect was taken into custody, and the evidence found was given to the Anti-Violence Squad Unit for additional examination and legal action.
