WAFCON: Okoronkwo wins Super Falcons’ fans award

Esther Okoronkwo has been voted the Super Falcons’ Fans’ Player of the Tournament at the recently concluded 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Okoronkwo emerged as the top choice ahead of five fellow teammates who were also nominated for the honor.

Among the other contenders were team captain Rasheedat Ajibade who was named the official Player of the Tournament by CAF as well as Jennifer Echegini, Ashleigh Plumptre, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Chiwendu Ihezuo.

The winner was determined through a poll conducted via the official X (formerly Twitter) page of the Super Falcons.

At 27, Okoronkwo made a major impact during Nigeria’s title-winning campaign at the tournament. Representing AFC Toronto, she scored twice and provided six assists across six matches.

Her outstanding performance also earned her a spot in CAF’s Best XI for the competition.
