War: Expert lists 3 ways Iran may retaliate US attack

Abas Aslani, a senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies in Tehran, has outlined possible ways Iran might respond to the recent U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities.

In an interview with Aljazeera regarding the assault that occurred on Saturday night, Aslani discussed several potential paths Iran could take in retaliation.

President Donald Trump announced that U.S. forces had successfully launched strikes on three of Iran’s main nuclear locations.

According to Aslani, Tehran might consider three different approaches in response.

“One could be the limited reaction, depending on the size of the damage,” Aslani said.

“But let’s not forget that in addition to the attack on the nuclear facilities, this is the US’s direct entry into the war with Iran. Iran had earlier warned that they will respond to this action,” he said.

“The second scenario could be a full-scale war, with Iran trying to engage in serious attacks against US interests as well as the Israeli ones. This could include a wide scope of targets, including Israeli nuclear sites, and allies of Iran could join this.”

He added that the third option could be a hybrid of the two, pointing to Iran’s “levers like in the Strait of Hormuz, which it could close to block the balance of energy in the region”.

Trump used his Truth Social platform to confirm that the U.S. had successfully struck nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan three of Iran’s most important facilities.

He declared that no nation was more capable than the United States in executing such an operation and concluded by saying the moment had come for peace.

The U.S. president also issued a stern warning to Iran, cautioning that any retaliation could have severe consequences.
