Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that he will begin talks on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire when he meets U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East Envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Monday in Washington.
A statement from his office revealed that Netanyahu is set to leave Israel on Sunday and travel to Washington, where he will meet with President Trump at the White House next week to discuss the situation in Gaza and the Israeli hostages held there.
According to report gathered during his meeting with Witkoff, Netanyahu will outline Israel’s stance regarding the ceasefire.
In a similar manner, Witkoff will also engage with officials from Egypt and Qatar, who have served as mediators between Israel and Hamas over the last 15 months, with support from Washington.
It’s important to recall that last month, Israel and Hamas reached a complicated ceasefire agreement, which will be carried out in three phases, leading to a cessation of the fighting in Gaza.
Reporting that Hamas has released at least 18 hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
At the same time, over 70 hostages are still being held in Gaza.
