Lionel Messi of Inter Miami has revealed that while he and Cristiano Ronaldo are not personal friends, they share a respectful and “normal” relationship.
Speaking in an interview with DSsports, Messi noted that their competitive rivalry was confined to the pitch, where both were focused on securing victories for their respective teams.
The two football legends were long-time rivals during their years in Spain, representing opposite sides of the iconic El Clasico—Messi with Barcelona and Ronaldo with Real Madrid.
Now, however, they are continents apart: Ronaldo currently plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, while Messi continues his career in Major League Soccer with Inter Miami.
“The competition with him was on the pitch.
“Obviously, as always, everything stayed on the field. Off the pitch, we are two normal people.
“We are not friends, we don’t spend time together. But we have always treated each other with respect,” Messi said.
