A group of recently hired Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) employees have expressed concern over what they claim are inexplicable delays in their onboarding and posting since August 28, 2023.
The impacted recruits claim that as part of the paperwork process, the apex bank sent them offer letters, got their approval, and told them to quit their prior positions.
Speaking on behalf of others, Emmanuel Linus Dabo addressed reporters at the Nigerian Union of Journalists press center in Bauchi on Monday, saying: “We all tendered resignation letters at that time to enable us proceed with the CBN process.”
He clarified that the hiring process started in April 2023 with resumes submitted at the CBN headquarters. The Human Resources Department then sent out invitations for interviews, aptitude tests, and physicals at the Bank’s clinic.
According to Dabo, all qualified candidates were then invited to the CBN headquarters in Abuja to pick up offer letters, which were promptly signed and sent back.
He continued by saying that after the HR department sent several emails asking for paperwork for online documentation, resignation acknowledgements, and credentials, all correspondence stopped.
Many of the recruits have been practically unemployed for almost three years due to a lack of posting and employment income, which they feel may be related to changes in the apex bank’s leadership.
The applicants received “Provisional Offer of Appointment” letters with a one-year probationary period prior to confirmation, according to documents viewed by ZINGTIE.
In September 2023, November 2024, and January 2025, the impacted group also sent letters of reminder to the new CBN Governor; however, none of these received an official response.
Regarding their present struggles, Dabo observed that a large number of them are experiencing distress:
“As I’m talking to you, many of our colleagues are depressed. We recently contributed N3,000 each to support some who are in the hospital. Many can’t pay rent, bills, or school fees. Some withdrew their children from school.”
Additionally, he disclosed that some had returned from overseas to work in Nigeria just to become trapped.
As the financial crisis worsens, the impacted recruits are pleading with President Bola Tinubu, the governor of CBN, and other relevant parties to step in and help them.
