Veteran Nollywood actor Lalude has opened up about receiving only N10,000 per day for meals while participating in the 2023 campaign for President Bola Tinubu.
He shared this during a recent interview circulating widely online, where he expressed deep disappointment and regret over the tough conditions he has experienced since Tinubu assumed office.
Lalude explained that he, along with several fellow actors, joined the campaign effort for over a month and two weeks without being compensated for their work.
He voiced his frustration, revealing that the group was only provided with N10,000 daily for food. Despite expectations of a more substantial allowance due to the nature of the campaign, that amount was all they received. He added that when the organizers discovered some of them were saving the money, the amount was reduced, and on certain days sometimes up to three at a stretch they weren’t given anything at all.
“They were giving us N10,000 daily for feeding. It was supposed to be more than that for campaign opportunities, but they decided to be giving us N10,000. And when they get to know that we are saving the money, they reduced the amount and sometimes they won’t even give us for like two to three days.
“And after the whole campaign job for a month and three weeks, they refused to pay us for it. Those withholding our financial benefits for the campaign will not be fortunate for the rest of their life,” he stated
His comments came shortly after another actor, Alapini, publicly shared similar regrets about supporting Tinubu during the election alongside many industry peers.
This revelation comes two years after the elections that brought Tinubu into power in 2023.
Several public figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry, including Saheed Balogun, Bimbo Akintola, Toyin Abraham, Eniola Badmus, Olaiya Igwe, and Seyi Law, had declared their support for Tinubu at the time.
Their endorsement led to significant backlash across social media, with many Nigerians expressing anger and disappointment. Some fans unfollowed the celebrities, while others criticized their decision, especially amid worsening economic conditions and rising insecurity that continued from the administration led by Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
