Chairman of Ethiope-East Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, has pledged that justice will be served for the pregnant woman who was fatally shot by soldiers pursuing individuals suspected of internet fraud, commonly known as yahoo boys.
Ogedegbe made this commitment through a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
He stated that the Council is actively working to implement measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
Expressing deep sorrow over the woman’s death, he described the incident as both “painful” and “avoidable.”
While acknowledging the tough and often complex role security forces play in maintaining peace and order, Ogedegbe stressed that this particular event strayed far from their fundamental duty to safeguard lives and property.
According to him, “It is deeply concerning to see incidents like this, which diverge from the intended duties of combating crime and ensuring public safety.”
“We will pursue this issue with the seriousness it deserves and ensure that justice is served while taking the necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the future,” he assured.
He also urged residents of Abraka to stay calm and obey the law, assuring them that appropriate discussions are ongoing with security agencies to ensure those involved are held accountable and to prevent any recurrence.
In his condolence message, Hon. Ogedegbe offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and comfort during this period of mourning.
