Mukami, a woman from Meru has talked about the horrific experience of parenting two kids while escaping spousal abuse. Her narrative emphasizes the difficulties women have in abusive relationships and the significance of getting support.
Mukami clarified that she was raised in Meru and had to drop out of school because of financial troubles after losing her father in form two. After relocating to Thika, she worked as a housekeeper and eventually connected with her future spouse on Facebook. After dating for six months, they moved into the village together and had two kids.
Mukami claims that her husband became addicted to alcohol and occasionally sold home goods to pay for it. He started acting violently when she challenged him.
He brought his mistress home intoxicated one evening, insisted that she cook, and physically attacked her when she demanded cash. She was even forced to leave the house with her kids when he dumped her clothes outside.
Mukami came upon three armed men in a nearby tea plantation while traveling. Fearful at first, she told them about her predicament. Remarkably, despite acknowledging their involvement in illegal acts, the guys decided to securely return her home and urged her to continue praying, claiming that God had kept her safe that evening.
Mukami’s narrative illuminates the fortitude needed to deal with violent relationships as well as the erratic ways in which support and safety might materialize.
