According to reports, a middle-aged man named Tartor Ayihe committed suicide after allegedly selling a piece of land in Ayihe village, Makurdi Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, to three separate purchasers.

After being questioned about the fraudulent transactions, the deceased reportedly ingested a deadly substance that was thought to be Sniper, a pesticide.

The event happened on Wednesday night after Ayihe was called by community elders to explain how he sold the same piece of family land to three different buyers, according to a community source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“After it was discovered that he sold a piece of family land to three different buyers, the matter was reported to the Kindred Head by those he deceived,” the source said.

Ayihe excused himself from the meeting with the Kindred Head and the impacted buyers on the grounds that he needed to get something from his house. Rather, he allegedly bought the insecticide and, after turning off his phone, ingested it.

“After waiting for about an hour, people were sent to bring him back to the venue.

“When they got to his home, he was found motionless, with empty bottles of the poisonous chemical around him.

“He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.” The source stated further.

CSP Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue State Police, verified the event and said that police officers have been sent to do additional investigation.
