What South East Devt Commission will do to Igbos – Ifeanyi Ubah

According to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the recently passed South East Development Commission Bill will lessen the Igbo’s sense of marginalization.

In a press release he signed and sent to ZINGTIE in the capital of Anambra State, Awka, Ubah congratulated the Senate for adopting the law, stating that it is an essential step in addressing the needs of the Ndigbo people.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Ubah originally introduced the bill to the current 10th Senate and subsequently approved it through the first reading.

Ubah complimented the Senate for its diligent efforts to assure the bill’s approval and for making sure the process was kept intact after its first reading.

He said: “I appreciate the Senate on behalf of the South East Senators and Honourable Members. The South East Development Commission Bill is important in addressing the developmental challenges faced by the South East region of Nigeria.

“I emphasize the need for targeted interventions to promote economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare in the region.”

He emphasized that the Commission would end the perceived marginalization of the South East and, once signed into law, would allow the zone to directly benefit from Federal intervention programmes, which are currently enjoyed by other zones, such as the South-South and North East, through the Niger Delta Development Commission and the North East Development Commission, respectively.

He noted that the Federal Government is dedicated to developing all regions of the nation and that, should the bill be signed into law, the Senate would prioritize its implementation by ensuring the Commission is duly established and empowered to carry out its mandate.
