Chief Dele Momodu, a seasoned journalist, formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that antidemocratic elements had taken control of the party.

Momodu declared his immediate exit from the party in a letter dated July 17, 2025, sent to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State.

“My reason is clear and direct,” the letter stated.

He added that, “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.

“It is therefore honorable to relinquish the remains of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

A former PDP presidential candidate and publisher of Ovation International, Chief Momodu thanked the ward-level party leadership for their steadfast support over the years.

His switch to the ADC marks a dramatic change in Edo State politics and gives the ongoing realignments leading up to the general elections in 2027 more impetus.

Momodu became a prominent figure in national discussions and party matters after joining the PDP in 2021.

His exit comes after several high-profile individuals who were unhappy with the internal dynamics of the party resigned.
